Puleng Tlolane's magic touch secure Rise and Shine a point

Mar 13, 2018 @ 13:26:34

Polokwane City fought back to hold Lamontville Golden Arrows to a 2-2 draw in an Absa Premiership match at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The draw sees Rise and Shine move up to 14th place on the league standings, while Abafana Bes'thende also climbed up to ninth spot on the table

Polokwane and Arrows shared ball possession fairly evenly in the opening stages of the game, but the two teams were struggling to create clear-cut chances.

The hosts combined nicely on the edge of the Arrows box in the 12th minute, but Jabulani Maluleke placed his long-range shot over the crossbar.

As the game progressed, Rise and Shine took control of the game as they looked to break the deadlock.

However, the Abafana Bes'thende defence which was led Limbikani Mzava looked solid with the half-time break fast approaching.

The visitors looked dangerous on the counter attack, but they could not seriously test Polokwane's towering shot-stopper George Chigova.

The score was 0-0 at the interval between Polokwane and Arrows following a closely contested first half.

The deadlock was broken four minutes after the restart and it was Abafana Bes'thende, who scored against the run of play.

Velemseni Ndwandwe played a through pass for Lerato Lamola, who scored with a powerful low shot to make it 1-0 to Arrows.

It was nearly 2-0 to Arrows in the 54th minute when Mzwandile Buthelezi's thunderous header was brilliantly finger-tipped over the crossbar by Chigova.

Polokwane coach Bernard Molekwa reacted by introducing Walter Musona, who made an immediate impact in the 59th minute.

The Zimbabwe international directed the ball into the back of the net with his chest from Maluleke's well-taken free-kick to make it 1-1.

However, Siphelele Magubane restored Arrows' lead four minutes later as he scored with beautiful curling effort to make it 2-1 to the visitors.

Arrows coach Clinton Larsen introduced Wayde Jooste in the 71st minute as the visitors looked to extend the lead in the closing stages of the game.

Thapelo Tshilo should have levelled matters for Polokwane with 10 minutes left, but the defender placed his effort just over the crossbar with Arrows keeper Maximilian Mbaeva beaten.

Mbaeva then produced a magnificent save to deny Polokwane midfielder Sammy Seabi from close range in the 87th minute as the hosts searched for a late equalizer.

Polokwane never lost hope and they deservedly grabbed a late equalizing goal through Puleng Tlolane, who scored with a well-taken long-range shot in stoppage time to ensure that the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
