Get to know our new signing Themba Mavundla.

#RiseAndShine latest signing, Themba Mavundla shares his journey to the City of Polokwane with a twist look at his childhood, his ambitions and things that make him tick.

Q: Who is Themba and makes you stand out?

A: I’m humble; I believe in God and i always work hard by putting extra effort in everything that i do.

 Q: What sort of childhood did you have?

A: I’m from a big family of football lovers, that’s why they were always believed in my dream when they realised i had talent. Coming from Katlehong In Gauteng playing football in the streets has always been a part of growing up.

Q: What is that you know for sure about life?

A: That with God everything is possible.

Q: Three things people don’t know about you?

A: 1. I’m close with my mom than my dad.

     2. Forever smiling type of a guy.

     3. I am very religious person affiliated with the ZCC Church.

Q: What keeps you going in life?

A: My parents.

Q: What got you into football?

A: It chose me more than i chose it. It’s a family thing.

Q: Why did you opt for a right-wing position? 

A: My former coach from Old Mutual Academy converted me from striker to my current position because of my speed and skill and i haven’t looked back since.

Q: What are some of the disadvantages of playing that position?

A: Running out of breath because i do so much running. And there’s high expectations attached to this position for perform very well?

Q: ...The advantages?

A: You can create and score goals and i also like the fact that it’s a one-on-one forward and back gives my talents the platform to shine.

Q: Which player is your worst nightmare?

A: Khama Billiat

Q: Favourite player locally, dead or alive?

A: The late, Skara Ngobese, Thulani Serero, Khama Billiat and Fortune Makaringe

Q: ...Internationally?

A: Cristiano Ronaldo and Games Rodriguez

Q: What do you have in your training bag?

A: Soccer boots, Energy Bar and Headsets,

Q: What stereotypes or misconceptions are there about footballers that you know are not true? 

A: Soccer players are illiterate and that’s not true.

Q: Where will you like City to finish at the end of the season?

A: Top 8

Q: What do you want to achieve come the end of the season?

A: Playing more often, scoring for the team and hopefully get a call up for the            national team.

Q: How would you like people to remember you?

A: As a person who is free to express himself in the field of play and that encourages the youth to follow their dreams.
