Sphesihle on MDC: Its a do or die for us

The Multichoice Diski Challenge is nearing the end with the last batch of matches due for this weekend. The Premier Soccer League together with sponsors and MultiChoice have announced that Nike Football Training Centre in Soweto will host the MDC (PSL Reserve League) final festival on Saturday, 27 February.

The MDC final round of fixtures will see all 16 clubs in action from 09h00 in the morning with the final fixtures scheduled to kick-off at 15h00.

Polokwane City who have shown great consistency in the competition and are still in the running to walk away as the 2015/16 champions will be taking on Maritzburg United at 12h00.

Golden Arrows are currently leading the pack with 31 points from 14 games just a point above 2nd place Mamelodi Sundowns and 3rd placed Polokwane City.

#RiseAndShine and Ka Boyellow are separated by a goal difference of 7 goals in favour of Sundowns.

Polokwane City striker, Siphesihle Nzimande who is the current top goal scorer in the competition says that the weekend fixture is very important and that he wants to score three goals “This match is very important and we must win. We can’t afford to settle for anything less than a win.”

“ I want to score about 3 goals on the day so that i retain my spot as the top goal scorer and honestly it would take a miracle to beat that”

Nzimande says that his performance in the competition has been overwhelming “I’m happy with my overall performance in MDC but it got really overwhelming most of the time. I think that my presence has really helped my team to be where it is currently and i hope that Coach Jacky includes me in the line up”



Facts about the MultiChoice Diski Challenge:

The MultiChoice Diski Challenge is MultiChoice’s flagship corporate responsibility programme. The programme consists of three core elements:

  • A 16-team development league in partnership with the PSL which will fast track the development of young players into the PSL league
  • Life skills and leadership development of the young players
  • Up to 43 internships for aspiring content producers at SuperSport gaining on field experience in broadcasting, running a weekly magazine show, as well as an opportunity to receive academic scholarships

The MultiChoice Diski Challenge

The MultiChoice Diski Challenge consists of 16 teams which are representative of the general PSL.

All the 16 teams will play each other once. The rules and regulations of this league are determined by the PSL.

University of Pretoria were the inaugural winners of the tournament after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 on penalties in the final at the Nike Football Training Centre in Soweto.

The programme will kick off on the weekend of 5 September 2015 and wrap up by March 2016. A total of 126 matches will be played. The winning team will receive:

  • The MultiChoice Diski Challenge trophy (rotating)
  • Gold medals
  • A trip to Holland for a 4-day training camp at the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB).
