Get to know defense maestro, Jorry Matjila

May 04, 2016 @ 12:57:05

Today we delve into the life of yet one of the promising players to come out of Polokwane City who has played a pivotal role in making sure that the team’s defence is even more solid. It is Left-back player, Jorry Matjila.

Khanye, as he is affectionately known talks about his upbringing, his career and some of the things that make him tick.

Q: Who is Jorry Matjila?

A: Jorry is a God fearing young man who grew up in a small town called Mokopane. I have been very lucky to be born into the privilege of being raised by both parents. I am highly driven to succeed no matter the circumstance.

Q: How did you get into Football?

A: It’s always been about the passion for me. My passion for the game is tantamount to my love for life. I mean the bug bit me at a very young age where i realised that i had the talent and displayed it on the dusty streets of Mahwelereng.

Q: Wow. Impressive, but how did you end up in topflight football?

A: Thanks. It’s imperative that i mention where it all started. It was at Mokopane Abner Development that my career took a professional turn. I then joined Mokopane Academy, Winners Park, Yster United and gradually making my way into #RiseAndShin and i have not looked back ever since.

Q: Why did you opt to play left-back?

A: I am actually a left winger but I’ve learned that it is important to be versatile as a player which is why i happen to find myself as a left-back sometimes. The sole reason why i play that position is because i am left footed and it’s one position i master very well as compared to others.

Q: What are some of the challenges and advantages you face as a left-winger/ Left-back?

A: One might think that having to attack and defend would be one of those disadvantages because you happen to do a lot of running but that’s something that i actually prefer. This effort will inevitably help the team reach it’s full potential. There is nothing that makes me feel alive than creating opportunities for my teammates to score and also the opportunity to score the goals myself, those for me are advantages.

Q: Favorite players internationally and locally?

A: Internationally it has to be Steven Pienaar but locally i have to vouch for myself given the opportunity because i do not have a favourite.

Q:  How would you like to be remembered?

A:  In a way that people would be inspired to follow my footsteps and for them to achieve all they set their minds to. In short i want to leave a legacy!
