Coach Luc: These friendly games are an indication of a direction I'm taking with the team.

Aug 08, 2016 @ 19:16:13

With less than three weeks remaining to the start of the new season, Polokwane City has been hard at work in preparing for the mammoth task that is the Absa Premiership 2016/17 season

Newly appointed head coach at the helm, Luc Eymael says that preperations are going well and it's going to be an interesting season

"I am fairly happy with how things are going. We have been working hard in camp with three friendly matches already played and two due. Our first match against Kaizer Chiefs, the very same team that recently played against Orlando pirates in a Cup competition with exactly the same substitutions as those in our match and after 90 min we won 1-0."

"That should tell you there's progress, however we continued after the 90 minutes and the third 45 minutes where I used 29 players we lost 2-1. The boys however surprisingly responded very well, tactically, technically and physically for their 1st game."

"Second game against supersport it was a very tough one. with a team very physical who liked duals and played hard, this game sure goes down in the books as the most tactical yet. We had a good build up until the very last minute but it was a very close race. we just didn't create big chances to score but also we didn't give our opponent, who -in actual fact- is not the same supersport as last season, a chances to score"

Rise and Shine had a third friendly today in efforts to prepare for what lies ahead and Coach Luc says it could have gone better "Today we played Highlands park for a whole 180 minutes. The first 90 minutes we changed our system a little which resulted in great results on the bumpy pitch and ultimately won 2-0. With goals coming from Thobani and Ramagalela respectively. Even though it was well and good that we won, the second 90 minutes ended in a goalless draw after I had changed the team completely and it did not help that both Mfundo and Jembula are out on Injury"

"We have definitely improved as a team and the playing style has changed completely. One thing for sure I would still like to sign a tall striker and a more strong and experienced midfielder. We will be playing Orlando Pirates on Wednesday and then close off the friendlies with Witbank Spurs on Friday"
